Instructions for Managing an Overheating Vehicle

If you’re driving down the road and notice that your vehicle’s thermostat is maxed out, what should you do? For starters, you should immediately pull over, turn on your hazard lights and turn off your vehicle. Then you should let it cool down for at least 10 minutes and open the vehicle’s hood to provide airflow. Once it’s cooled down, you should turn the ignition to the first position—not yet starting the engine—to see what the temperature gauge reads. If the engine temperature has not dropped, consider calling a tow truck rather than driving with an overheating engine, as it can result in severe damage to your vehicle.
